Slides documenting Douglas Farfel's U.S. Army service as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. The materials are dated 1969.
Biographical / Historical
Douglas W. Farfel was born in 1947 in Denver, Colorado. He volunteered for the United States Army in 1966. Farfel served for three years and six months including one year and seven months in Southeast Asia. Farfel was stationed at Phu Loi, Di An, and Quan Loi in Vietnam from 1968-1970 and held the rank of Warrant Officer 1 as a helicopter pilot for OH-13, UH-1, and LOH-6 in the 1st Infantry and the 11th Armored Cavalry, 2nd Squadron. He was discharged in 1970 as a Warrant Officer 2. Farfel received multiple awards including distinguished flying crosses, an air medal, and an army commendation. He is currently a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. After his service Farfel completed one year of college and flew civilian helicopters until 2015.
