Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately 11.5 linear feet of materials documenting Dino J. Caterini's service as a civilian foreign service officer with Joint United States Public Affairs Office (JUSPAO) - serving first as an advisor to the Vietnamese Information Service in Tan An, Long An Province (1967-1968) and then as Assistant Press Officer with JUSPAO in Saigon (1968-1969). The materials include slides; diaries; administrative documents; periodicals; newspapers; surveys; flyers and pamphlets; maps; directories; press releases; articles and papers; data sheets; propaganda leaflets; efficiency reports; notes; policy statements; memos; photographs; award citations; security clearances; books; and insurance records.
Biographical / Historical
Dino J. Caterini was born February 4, 1932 in Cleveland, OH. He joined the United States Information Agency as a civilian foreign service officer, where he served for 35 years (including 7 years in Southeast Asia). He was assigned to Joint United States Public Affairs Office (JUSPAO), where he served first as an advisor to the Vietnamese Information Service in Tan An, Long An Province (1967-1968) and then as Assistant Press Officer with JUSPAO in Saigon (1968-1969). He was involved in both the Tet Offensive of February 1968 and the Mini-Tet Offensive of May-June 1968, during the latter of which he was shot by a Viet Cong sniper in Saigon. He received the Meritorious Service Award and the Vietnam Government Psychological Warfare Medal. After his time in Vietnam, he continued to serve wih the foreign service in Burma, Pakistan, and India before retiring in 1995.
