Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Specialist 5 James Robert Stapp's U.S. Army service as a clerk for B Company, 8th Psychological Operations Battalion in Pleiku and a clerk-assistant to the Chaplain in Saigon. The materials include propaganda leaflets; posters; newsletters; memos and correspondence (including letters of commendation and appreciation); flyers and pamphlets; event programs; maps; clippings; award recommendations and certificates; photographs; and ephemera. The materials are dated 1967-1971 or are otherwise undated.Biographical / Historical
Specialist 5 James Robert Stapp was born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1947. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1968. He served as a clerk for B Company, 8th Psychological Operations Battalion in Pleiku and a clerk-assistant to the Chaplain in Saigon. He received three Army Commendation Medals, the third of which included the second oak leaf cluster. He was honorably discharged from service in 1971 at the rank of SP5. Following his military service, SP5 Stapp went on to complete a BA degree in English and an MBA. He worked as an educator for many years at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels. He also worked as a management consultant for various international aid organizations. He married and had three children and two grandchildren.- 2
