Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a compilation of images documenting James C. Thomason's U.S. Army service as a helicopter pilot with the 1st Cavalry Division from December 1966 to December 1967.
Biographical / Historical
James Thomason was born in Lawrenceburg, TN on January 23, 1945. He volunteered for the United States Army in 1965 and served a total of fifteen years including one year in Southeast Asia where Thomason held the positions of WO-1, 2nd Lieutenant, and platoon leader. He was stationed in the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam and Ft Wolters, TX after returning. During his time in Vietnam Thomason participated in “Rolling Thunder” and he received multiple awards including a distinguished flying cross, a bronze star, and a Vietnam service medal. He was discharged from active duty in 1969 and from the reserves in 1980 as a Captain. After his military service Thomason became a residential land developer, volunteered for several military support groups, became a part of the Ft. Wolters Air Power council and foundation, joined the Military Warriors Support foundation, and joined the Ben Hogan foundation.
