Biographical / Historical

Frank T. Buzzard was born in Wilkinsburg, PA in 1947. He volunteered for the United States Army in 1967 and with the ranks of WO-1 and CW-2 spent a total of six years in service including one year in Southeast Asia from 1968-1969. Buzzard was assigned to Company B, 159th Assault Support Helicopter Battalion, 101st Air Battalion Division from 1968 to 1969, 160th Aviation Group, 101st Air Battalion Division in 1969, and 7th Signal Brigade Aviation Detachment in Mannheim, Germany from 1969 to 1971. He was stationed at Camp Eagle near Hue, South Vietnam and during this time Buzzard was involved with Dewey Canyon and Apache Snow. He received multiple awards including a distinguished flying cross, an air medal, and a bronze star. He was discharged in 1971 as a Captain O-3.

After his service in Vietnam Buzzard became a Medivac Pilot for the CO National Guard while finishing College at the University of Colorado from 1972 to 1974. He then went on to work for General Dynamics in San Diego, CA for Atlas/Centaur and Titan/Centaur Trajectory Design from 1974 to 1976. From 1976 to 2003 Buzzard worked for NASA JSC in Houston, TX as a NASA Chief Engineer for Space Shuttles and ISS.
