Biographical / Historical
Danny Joe Young (18 December 1945 - 17 August 2024) served in the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1965-1966, he was stationed in Vietnam as an electronics technician aboard the U.S.C.G.C. Point Marone 82331. The Point Marone was part of USCG Squadron One and participated in Operation Market Time.

In his oral history interview, Mr. Young describes how he was sent from his ship assignment to assist with maintaining unit radio equipment at a base, and one night was taken out by helicopter to a remote location and left alone at a radio station that had been badly damaged to get the equipment operational and re-establish its use for intelligence gathering, during which time he was captured by the Viet Cong and was held in a VC prisoner of war camp (description begins just after the 2:05 audio mark in the interview).
