Scope and Contents

The collection consists of approximately 3 linear feet of materials documenting Daniel Kolar's U.S. Army service as a Field Artillery Operations & Intelligence Assistant with Headquarters Battery, 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 17th Artillery - for whom he worked the Fire Direction Center stationed at Camp Radcliffe (The Golf Course) in An Khe from January 1966 to January 1967. The materials include artifacts; photographs and images; service records; military orders; a diary; certificates; electronic media; newsletters; articles and clippings; propaganda leaflets; sketches; newspapers; periodicals; flyers and pamphlets; slides; and ephemera.

Biographical / Historical

Daniel Kolar was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 22. He completed basic training at Ft. Knox, where he earned the Expert Marksmanship badge with the M-14. He completed training as a Field Artillery Operations & Intelligence Assistant at Ft. Sill. He was sent to Vietnam in January 1966 and was assigned to the Fire Direction Center of the newly under construction Camp Radcliffe (The Golf Course) at An Khe. He also spent time towards the end of his tour on operation in Pleiku.
