Scope and Contents

The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Lieutenant Colonel Robert E. Walsh's U.S. Army career, including his service with the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. The materials include photographs; articles and clippings; flyers and pamphlets; autographs from various colleagues; certificates; artifacts; and ephemera. The materials are dated predominately 1965 and 1974-1979.

Biographical / Historical

Lieutenant Colonel Robert E. Walsh was born in The Bronx, New York on April 17, 1938. He volunteered for the U.S. Army prior to going to college. In 1959, he joined the ROTC program at the University of Vermont. He spent time at Ft. Bragg and Ft. Benning, and he studied Vietnamese at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. He served with the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards including the Purple Heart, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Bronze Star. He served with the Command and Tactics Department from June 1977 to July 1979. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following his active duty service, he taught ROTC at the University of Florida before retiring to Nevada. He died September 26, 1988.
