Scope and Contents

The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Specialist 4 Alex Primm's U.S. Army service as a war correspondent with Headquarters, 1st Logistical Command, 7th Public Information Detachment at Long Binh. The materials include 1st Logistical Command newspapers edited by Specialist Primm; a pamphlet; a letter Specialist Primm wrote to a firm which he suspected of war profiteering; and an interview conducted with Specialist Primm as part of a U.S. Army criminal investigation of this correspondence. The materials are dated 1968-1971.

Biographical / Historical

Specialist 4 Alexander Timon Primm IV was born June 21, 1944 in St. Louis, MO. He volunteered for the U.S. Army, where he served for 2 years. He served as a correspondent with the 1st Logistical Command at Long Binh and as editor of the 1st Logistical Command's monthly newspaper, Vietnam Review. He was involved in the 2nd Tet Offensive of March 1969. He received the Army Commendation Medal with V device. He was honorably discharged in June 1969 at the rank of Specialist 4. Following his military service, he received an MA in Political Science. He worked in journalism and later became an oral historian.
