Scope and Contents

The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Specialist 5 Bruce Arthur Baker's U.S. Army service as a radio operator in Vietnam. The materials include service records; award citations; letters of commendation; photographs; and a photo album. The materials are dated 1968-1971.

Biographical / Historical

Specialist 5 Bruce Arthur Baker was born in 1947 in Beloit, WI. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966. He served for a total of 5 years, with 1 year in Vietnam and 18 months in Thailand. He served as a radio operator/repairman with various units including the 311th Army Security Agency, the 371st Army Security Agency, the 373rd Army Security Agency, the 7th Radio Research Field Station, and the 856th Radio Research Detachment. He was stationed at Long Binh, Vietnam and Ramasun Station, Thailand. He was honorably discharged in 1971 at the rank of Specialist 5. After his military service, he returned to Yuma, AZ and his work as an auto mechanic. He married, had 2 children, and later worked as a sewing machine mechanic at Blue Bell until his retirement. He died October 23, 2014 in Jamestown, NC.
