Biographical / Historical
Lieutenant Colonel David W. Ferebee, Jr. was born May 13, 1928 in Ernul, NC. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1953, where he served for 20 years. He was sent to Vietnam in 1968. While initially assigned to the 7th Battalion, 15th Field Artillery, he was quickly reassigned to the 6th Battalion, 84th Field Artillery (Traveling Guns) when the previous commander had to vacate the position and LTC Ferebee's experience with the unit's 155mm Howitzers was called upon. LTC Ferebee commanded this battalion from 1968-1969, during which time he was stationed at An Khe. He was given an award by the Republic of Korea for his actions during a particular engagement where his unit provided fire support for an ROK unit. He retired from military service in 1973 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After his military service, he worked various jobs including real estate, managing a store, and hotel night auditor. He died October 8, 1982 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
