Scope and Contents
The collection consists of artifacts, a frequency publication, pilot's checklists, song lyrics, slides, and photographs documenting Colonel Wayne Wright's U.S. Army service as a CH-21 and UH-1 gunship pilot with the 118th Assault Helicopter Company (1963-1964), as the 1st Aviation Battalion's intelligence and assistant operations officer (1967), and as Commanding Officer of the 62nd Aviation Company (1972). Also included is an oral history interview conducted with Colonel Wright.
Biographical / Historical
Colonel Wayne Wiley Wright was born in 1938 in Dallas, TX. He joined the U.S. Army through ROTC in 1962. He completed three tours of duty in Vietnam. From 1963-1964, he served as a CH-21 and UH-1 gunship pilot with the 118th Assault Helicopter Company. In 1967, he returned to Vietnam and served with the 1st Aviation Battalion as the battalion's intelligence and assistant operations officer. His final tour of duty was from late 1971 through 1972, during which time he served as Commanding Officer of the 62nd Aviation Company. He was stationed at Bien Hoa, Phu Loi, and Danang.
