Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately 7 linear feet of artifacts, articles, correspondence, photographs, newspapers, newsletters, periodicals, maps, and posters documenting Patrick Reilly's service with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division in Vietnam from 1967-1968, as well as his activities after the war assisting Vietnam veterans and Vietnamese refugees in both the United States and Southeast Asia through organizations such as the Brotherhood of Vietnam Veterans, the United Vietnam Veterans Organization, and Strike Force A.Biographical / Historical
Patrick Reilly was born in Oklahoma City, OK on March 9, 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in the summer of 1967 after graduating from high school in Laredo, TX. Later in 1967 he was sent to Vietnam to serve with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was wounded in January 1968 and then discharged from the Marine Corps in March 1969. He later moved to Israel where he was injured by a land mine, resulting in the amputation of his left foot. He returned to the United States in 1973 and worked with veterans organizations to assist veterans and Vietnamese refugees.- 4
