Scope and Contents

The collection consists of approximately a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Lt. William Rennicke's U.S. Navy service as an officer aboard the USS Luzerne County (LST 902) (July 1969 - July 1970) and as Senior Advisor with River Patrol Division 53 at Tra Cu (August 1971 - July 1972). The materials include a pilot guide to the Mekong Delta, a Vietnamese language training workbook from Naval Inshore Operations Training Center, slides, and a map. The materials are dated 1967-1972.

Biographical / Historical

Lieutenant William J. Rennicke was born in 1946 in New Rochelle, NY. He volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1968. He served as Assistant First Lieutenant aboard the USS Luzerne County (LST 902) (July 1969 - July 1970), as First Lieutenant aboard the USS Richard S. Edwards (DD 950) at Pearl Harbor (August 1970 - July 1971), and as Senior Advisor for River Patrol Division 53 at Tra Cu (August 1971 - July 1972). He was part of Mobile Riverine Force supporting the 9th Infantry Division in the Mekong Delta. After his second tour of Vietnam, he headed Naval ROTC at the University of Minnesota (August 1972 - August 1974). He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1974. After his military service, he worked in the railroad industry.
