Scope and Contents

The collection consists of approximately a quarter of a linear foot of materials accumulated by Judy Danielson during her time working as a physical therapist at the National Rehabilitation Center in Saigon. The materials include Vietnamese sheet music, song lyrics, and poetry booklets; an anti-war poster; a periodical; and a clipping. The materials are dated 1967-1980.

Biographical / Historical

Judy B. Danielson was born in 1943 in Storm Lake, IA. She worked for Lutheran World Relief's Vietnam Christian Service. In this capacity, she worked as a physical therapist at the National Rehabilitation Center in Saigon from June 1968 to August 1970. The National Rehabilitation Center was established by USAID to serve civilian war injured and was run by Saigon's Department of Veterans Affairs. She befriended many local university students who were mounting non-violent protest campaigns. After her time in Vietnam, she completed a speaking tour with American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Central Des Moines Region to raise funds for a rehabilitation center in Quang Ngai, worked for the Denver AFSC (1973-1980), raised a family, and continued to work in physical therapy and activism.
