Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately 1.5 linear feet of research materials accumulated by Charles Bailey during the course of his work on his book From Enemies to Partners: Vietnam, the U.S. and Agent Orange. The book was co-written with Dr. Le Ke Son, former director of Vietnam’s environmental agency and the person charged with working with successive U.S. administrations on a joint response to the human and environmental consequences of the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. The materials include transcripts (interviews, press conferences); drafts and editorial comments; data sheets and statistics; notes; reports; research papers; memos and correspondence; bibliographies; conference proceedings; Vietnamese documents; articles, clippings, and excerpts; periodicals; questionnaires; presentations; flyers and pamphlets; Congressional records; project proposals; legal records; press releases; speeches; public statements; agreements; meeting minutes; timelines; budgets; electronic media; and event programs. The materials are dated predominately 2002-2017.
Biographical / Historical
Charles R. Bailey worked as the Ford Foundation Representative in Vietnam from 1997-2007, helping to break the deadlock on Agent Orange between the United States and Vietnam in 2006-2007. He helped spearhead Agent Orange initiatives at the Ford Foundation and later the Aspen Institute before writing From Enemies to Partners: Vietnam, the U.S. and Agent Orange with Dr. Le Ke Son. He continues to be an advisor on the subject of Agent Orange in Vietnam.
