The collection consists of one image depicting U.S. soldiers posing with Vietnamese corpses and a letter to John Berendt (Associate Editor at Esquire Magazine) from Major General Wendell Coats regarding Esquire's planned publication of the image. The materials were acquired by Carol Polsgrove during the course of her research for her book It Wasn't Pretty, Folks, But Didn't We Have Fun?: Esquire in the Sixties.
