Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Master Sergeant Frederick Copeland's U.S. Army service with Headquarters, U.S. Army Support Thailand, 46th Special Forces Company (Airborne), 1st Special Forces in Thailand and Vietnam. The materials include photographs, yearbooks, and a patch. The materials are dated 1964-1971.
Biographical / Historical
Master Sergeant Frederick L. Copeland was born in 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA. He volunteered for the U.S. Army, where he served for 22 years. He served with Headquarters, U.S. Army Support Thailand, 46th Special Forces Company (Airborne), 1st Special Forces stationed with U.S. Army Pacific in Thailand (1966-1970 and 1971-1972) and Vietnam (1970-1971). He provided direct support of special forces operations in Vietnam, making numerous trips between Vietnam and Thailand in support of these operations. He participated in Counter Offensive Phase VII Consolidation I. He received numerous awards including the Thailand Parachute Badge & Fourragere, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, the Vietnam Civil Action Medal 1st Class, and two Bronze Stars. After his Vietnam sevice, he worked for the U.S. Government, the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as well as working as a pastor.
