Scope and Contents

The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting SP5 Daniel Nugent's service with the U.S. Army Security Agency at the 8th Radio Research Field Station (8th RRFS) in Phu Bai from September 1967 - September 1968 and from November 1969 - November 1970. The materials include photographs, a photo album, certificates, and award citations.

Biographical / Historical

Specialist 5 Daniel Allen Nugent was born 15 September 1948 in Detroit, MI. He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC from December 1966 to March 1967 and then served with D Company, 2nd Infantry Brigade at Ft. Devens, MA from March to September 1967. He then served with the U.S. Army Security Agency at the 8th Radio Research Field Station (8th RRFS) in Phu Bai, Vietnam from September 1967 to September 1968. He then served with the 177th Radio Research Company at Ft. Humphrey in Pyang Taek, South Korea (October 1968 to October 1969) before returning for an additional tour at 8th RRFS from November 1969 to November 1970. He also spent 6 weeks at Khe Sanh during the Tet Offensive. He received numerous awards including the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in November 1970. After his military service, he furthered his education and earned BS, MBA, and MSB degrees. He died of cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure at the age of 72.
