Scope and Contents

The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Lieutenant Colonel George English's USAF service as a navigator on the AC-47 and KC-135 with the 306th Air Refueling Squadron, Strategic Air Command stationed at McCoy AFB. The materials include propaganda leaflets; clippings; memos and correspondence; flyers and pamphlets; notes; diary entry; a safe conduct pass; a short timer calendar; newsletters; and ephemera. The materials are dated 1965-1966 and 1981-1998.

Biographical / Historical

Lieutenant Colonel George E. English was born in 1927 in Bad Axe, MI. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in June 1945 and was honorably discharged in July 1946. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in July 1951. He served as a navigator on the AC-47 and KC-135 with the 306th Air Refueling Squadron, Strategic Air Command stationed at McCoy AFB. He completed a tour of Vietnam from November 1965 to November 1966. He received numerous awards including 4 Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the USAF in 1971.
