Scope and Contents

The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Specialist 5 Frank Barber's U.S. Army service as a company clerk with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 9th Infantry Division from September 1966 to July 1968. The materials include clippings; periodicals; newspapers; service records; military orders; forms; pay vouchers; memos and correspondence; flyers, pamphlets, and handouts; notes; and ephemera.

Biographical / Historical

Specialist 5 Frank Paul Barber II was born in 1941 in Chicago, IL. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966. After training at Ft. Sill, OK, he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 9th Infantry Division as a Personnel Specialist and served as a company clerk from September 1966 to July 1968. He received numerous awards including a Sharpshooter Badge and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1968. After his military service, he began a career in real estate and property management after earning an Associate's degree from Central College in Chicago. He held many roles in the industry until 1984 when he founded his own real estate and property management company after moving to the Orlando, FL area and ran the company for over 40 years. He also served as a volunteer and board member of several Central Florida organizations promoting the arts and humanities.
