Scope and Contents
The collection consists of photographs, a program, periodicals, and a VHS tape that document the Lee Roy Herron Scholarship ceremony at Texas Tech University on 3 March 2001. The scholarship was established in honor of Lubbock native Lee Roy Herron, who was a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was killed in battle in the Ashau Valley in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam on 22 February 1969. The periodicals and VHS tape were collected by Norman Flanagan following the dedication ceremony, for which he created a bronze likeness of Herron. The materials are dated 2001-2002.
