Biographical / Historical

Gary Jestes was born in 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1969, Jestes volunteered for the United States Army and served for a total of two and a half years, one year of which was served in Southeast Asia. While in Vietnam, he served as a Specialist 4 in Hue at Camp Evans with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, 187th Infantry Regiment and held the positions of mail clerk and chaplain's assistant. During his service, he was involved with the invasion of Laos in 1971. At his discharge in March 1972, Jestes was ranked as a Specialist 5 and received the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He then attended college on the G.I.
