Scope and Contents

Documents, photos, slides and artifacts describe John Janks's service in the US Navy. Many photographs come from R & R trips to Bangkok. The slides were taken in the ports in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand. The slides also show daily life aboard the USS Fox.

Biographical / Historical

John S. Janks was born in Waukegan, Illinois on 27 June 1947. In 1973 Janks was drafted into the United States Navy, beginning his service of two years in the military. Janks spent a total of seven months in Southeast Asia during his service aboard the USS Fox (DLG-33) and was ranked as an E-4. At the time of his discharge in 1975, Janks had received the Vietnam Service Medal. Janks finished graduate school after his service, married and had children.
