Scope and Contents
Less than one linear foot of books, a VHS tape, and documents detail Fed Leo Brown's service with Americal Division, 198th 1/6 Light Infantry Battalion, 1967-1968. Most of the collection dates from the war era, though copies of Mr. Brown's books were republished in the 1990s.Biographical / Historical
Fred Leo Brown enlisted in the United States Army in the Spring 1967. He arrived in Vietnam in November 1967 and was assigned to Americal Division, 198th 1/6 Light Infantry Battalion. His unit participated in three main offensives, including the 1968 Tet Offensive (his battalion received a Presidential Unit Citation), Second Tet Offensive and Operation Burlington Trails. After eleven months of continuous combat duty, Sergeant Brown was severely wounded and hospitalized for seven months. He received an honorable discharge.Brown is the author of several books about his authentic experiences in the Vietnam War: Call Me No Name (1973), which was re-released in 1999 as VIETNAM WAR DIARY , includes several of the letters he wrote to his family from the field, and his most noted work, the acclaimed Wall of Blood (1992,1997).
