Scope and Contents
Two books and one Vietnamese document pertaining to the emerging free economy in modern Vietnam. Also included are the Manila Summit Conference Vietnam Report V with notes from Ambassador Bui Diem and a Manila Conference Joint Communiqué from 25 October 1966. The Manila Conference Joint Communiqué contains signatures from President Lyndon B. Johnson of the United States, Chairman Nguyen Van Thieu and Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky from the Republic of Vietnam, Prime minister Harold Holt of Australia, President Park Chung Hee of the Republic of Korea, Prime Minister Keith Holyoake of New Zealand, President
Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines, and Prime Minister Thanom Kittikachorn of Thailand.
Biographical / Historical
Bui Diem was born in 1923 and served in the government of Vietnam. From 1966 to 1972 he was the South Vietnamese ambassador to the U.S. government and was involved in the Paris peace talks.
