Scope and Contents
A scrapbook of collected materials documents Robert Lafoon's service with DASPO. Photographs make up the bulk of the scrapbook, but it also contains printed documents, press passes, newspaper photographs, etc. Published photos by Lafoon are represented in the Garrison newsletter and VFW magazine (May 1966). A book, Images of a Lengthy War, contains photos by Lafoon and other DASPO photographers. For preservation of the materials, the scrapbook has been disassembled, and the items kept in original order in acid-free folders.Biographical / Historical
Robert Lafoon served in the infantry in an Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Texas, from February 1964 through April 1965. He then attended Army Photo School from May to September, 1965. Lafoon served as an Army still photographer for the Southeast Asia team at Ft. Shafter, Hawaii, from September 1965 until March 1968. During his service with DASPO, Lafoon covered multiple operations in Vietnam. After leaving the Army Lafoon continued to serve in the Army Reserves and saw active duty in logistics during the Gulf War.- 1
