Scope and Contents

The collection consists of approximately a quarter of a linear foot of documents, newspapers, museum objects, posters, and audio recordings donated to the archive by John Brennan. The materials are about POW/MIA awareness, and are produced by two different groups: Voices in Vital America (VIVA) and Americans for the Return of American Servicemen from Vietnam. The materials from VIVA include information from their POW bracelet campaign, correspondence and flyers about VIVA events and issues, petitions, flyers, and pamphlets urging citizens to contact various government agencies about the POW/MIA's from the Vietnam War, a record album of songs, bumper stickers, and issues of The Voice of POW's and MIA's - VIVA's official newspaper. The materials from Americans for the Return of American Servicemen from Vietnam include POW/MIA related newspaper clippings, materials from the Red Ribbon campaign, a listing of US government actions concerning POW/MIAs, lists with details of reported POW live sightings, petitions and pamphlets, and bumper stickers. Also included are books and newsletters accumulated by John Brennan. The materials from this collection date from 1970 through the 1990's.
