Scope and Contents
The collection consists of letters, memos, administrative documents, reports, charts, printed material, handwritten notes, photographs, newspapers, ephemera, and a map of southern Vietnam that document John Proe's service as a U.S. Army Medical Advisor in Vietnam, US military medical support, Vietnamese public health and Vietnamese culture, circa 1967-1968. Of special interest are 1) a personal health care kit manufactured in China and carried by Viet Cong and North Vietnames, given to Dr. Proe after the Tet Offensive of 1968, and 2) a IV Corps (Mekong Delta region) map annotated with the locations of medical teams and headquarters for both Free World and U.S. Surgical and MILPHAP (Military Provincial Health Program) teams.Biographical / Historical
