Scope and Contents
This collection contains a variety of material pertaining to John T. Spence's naval service during the Vietnam War, 1964-1966. Materials include U.S.S. CAVALIER (APA-37) administrative documents and yearbooks, a photo album and scrapbook, newspapers, 8 mm film, patches, medals, currency, a beret, and a U.S.S. CAVALIER plaque. Also included is a U.S.S. Cavalier (APA-37) Association newsletter.
Biographical / Historical
John T. Spence was born in Lubbock, Texas on July 17th, 1941. He volunteered for the US Navy in 1963 and served for 3 years and 9 months, 2 of which were in Southeast Asia. He held the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class and was a Personnelman 3rd class during his service. Mr. Spence served onboard the USS Cavalier (APA-37). John T. Spence was discharged from the US Navy in 1967 and returned to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University where he received a BA in Pyshology.
