Scope and Contents

This collection contains newspaper articles, exhibit and symphony programs, arts catalogues, and songbooks documenting the career of composer and photographer Le Van Khoa. In the collection are works published in America by Le Van Khoa during the post war period.

Biographical / Historical

Le Van Khoa was born in 1933 in South Vietnam. He excelled in the fields of photography, music, and education; and received awards from the South Vietnamese Government for his work in public education and mass media. He co-founded and served as president of the Vietnamese Artistic Photography Association in 1968 and has remained an active contributing member. He is a professor of advanced photography and has often served as a judge at national and international photography competitions. He has been an award winning photographer since 1962 and his work has been exxhibited in the USA and abroad. The US Congress recognized his achievements in photography in 1989. In addition to photography, Le Van Khoa has been an award winning composer since 1954. His compositions have been performed by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony Institute Orchestra, the Houston Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and several others. His music has also been recorded and featured on several albums. Le Van Khoa has gathered and documented is musical and artistic endeavors in a number of books, and articles. He has also written a dozen books on educational subjects. Two of his books, Souvenirs from Vietnam (for piano) and The Beautiful Bamboo (for voice) were commissioned and used by Golden West College in it's curriculum.
