Scope and Contents

The collection consists of books, documents, photographs, electronic media, and audio tapes donated to the archive by Larry Berman. The manuscript materials are arranged in four series.

The first series contains research materials for Berman's book The Perfect Spy about Pham Xuan An. These materials contain clippings, interviews, hearing testimonies, correspondence, and hand written notes about Pham Xuan An - including research into his college career in the U.S., his time as a correspondent for Time Magazine, and his life after the fall of Saigon. This series also contains numerous photographs, electronic media, and audio cassettes of interviews with Pham Xuan An.

The second series contains research materials for Berman's book No Peace No Honor and contains White House memoranda, intelligence summaries, speeches, correspondence, papers, clippings, and transcripts of interviews with Douglas Pike, General Goodpaster, William Colby, Anthony Lake, and Melvin Laird. These papers discuss the Paris Peace Accords, the 1960 Democratic Convention, Henry Kissinger, Richard Nixon, and all of the major diplomats involved in the Paris Peace Accords and Vietnam from 1960-1973.

The third series contains materials related to Berman's lawsuit against the CIA to gain access to the Presidential Daily Briefs. This series contains examples of the briefs, clippings of press coverage of the case, legal documents, and a copy of the trial transcript.

The fourth series consists of manuals, pamphlets, and miscellaneous correspondence and other documents.
