Scope and Contents
This collection contains the obituary of Vietnam veteran Richard Bailey, two photographs of River Patrol Boats, and a map of the Vietnam Conflict. Included on the Vietnam Conflict Map are other maps: Economic Map of Southeast Asia; continental Asia; and a chronology of events since World War II.
Biographical / Historical
Richard Bailey was born October 5, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was valedictorian of his high school class and graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Bailey attended the University of Washington in Seattle on a Woodrow Wilson scholarship. In 1964 he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the USS Duluth after completing OCS training. Bailey also served in the River Patrol Force in the Mekong Delta, 1967 - 1968, and was a Lieutenant when he was discharged. After leaving the Navy he lived in California until he returned to Minnesota in 1987. Richard Bailey died on June 3, 2000.
