Scope and Contents
Less than one linear foot of Navy orders, reports, correspondence, manuscript materials, handbooks, news articles and maps of Southeast Asia document Reverend James Haney's service as a Navy Chaplain, 1964-1972. The bulk of the documents are dated from the war era and include the following items of note: construction plans for building a church in Vietnam, a biography of Haney's friend Dang Ngoc Cang, a Vietnamese pastor, an evacuation handbook for 1975, and a memo on the My Lai #4 hamlet of Song My village.
Biographical / Historical
James Haney (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) entered service in June 1964. He served as Chaplain in the United States Navy until his discharge in the summer of 1972. Haney served in Vietnam from May 1969 to May 1970. During that time he was attached to the Naval Support Activity Detachment at Chu Lai.
