Scope and Contents
The collection consists of correspondence; military orders and citations; and electronic media documenting Neal Fagan's service in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. Correspondence includes letters written to and from Fagan while in Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Advance Individual Training and Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and while serving in Vietnam from June 1969 - June 1970. Three CDs contain digitized photographs and documents documenting Neal Fagan's tour-of-duty in Vietnam including images of Fagan's arrival in Vietnam and his assignments in the Central Highlands, including An Khe, Pleiku, Dak-To, and Ben Het. A fourth CD contains images of Department of the Army citations pertaining to Neal Fagan.
Biographical / Historical
Neal Fagan enlisted in the United States Army in 1968. He completed Basic Training for the from 22 June- August 1968 at Fort Leonard, Missouri; Advanced Individual Training (AIT) from September-October 1968 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and Officer Candidate's School (OCS) in April 1969. Fagan then served a tour of duty in Vietnam from July 1969-May 1970 as a second lieutenant (2LT) assigned to B Battery, 6th Artillery Battalion, 14th Artillery Regiment as a Forward Observer (FO) and Fire Direction Officer (FDO). The 6/14th Artillery was located at Ben Het and he arrived there during the Siege of Ben Het, which ended in July 1969. He was discharged from the Army in 1971.

Fagan received the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal with 1960 device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star and a Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster.
