Scope and Contents
The Mary Reynolds Powell collection is composed of three signed copies of Powell's memoir A World of Hurt: Between Innocence and Arrogance in Vietnam. Published 2000, A World of Hurt documents Powell's experiences as a twenty -three year old Army nurse at the 24th Evacuation Hospital at Long Binh in1970-1971.
Biographical / Historical
Since her return from Vietnam, Mary Reynolds Powell has worked in community health and on community issues. She graduated from Columbia University and received a Master of Arts in Urban sociology from the University of Colorado. She lives in Shaker Heights, Ohio, with her husband Doug, whom she met in Vietnam, and their three children.
