The Green Berets
Moving Image Item Number: 382VI2751
John Wayne stars in and co directs ths unabashedly red-white-and-blue depiction of America's Vietnam War Effort, his most forceful film statement ever on the nature of duty and courage during times of political uncertainties. Wayne personally wrote President Lyndon Johnson to request Pentagon assistance in filming and received all the military hardware--and then some--needed to create an impressive spectacle. Particularly dramatic is a long night battle in which the Special Forces camp is overrun by the enemy, then retaken. The ever-shifting perimeter, the mind-wracking cacaphony of explosion after explosion, the difficulty in distinguishing between friend and foe, and the nearly futile attempts at command communications during the chaos of battle vividly symbolize the war as it really was.

Hamburger Hill
Moving Image Item Number: 382VI2752
Vietnam, 1969, Hill 937, 10 days, 70% casualties. Those are the facts--this is the story. The men of Bravo Company are facing a battle that's all up-hill...up Hamburger Hill. 14 war-weary soliders are battling for a mud-covered mound of earth so name because it chews up soliders like chopped meat. They are fighting for their country , their fellow soliders and their lives. War is hell, but this is worse. Hamburger Hill tells it the way it was, the way it really was. It's raw, gritty and totally unrelenting dramatic depiction of one of the fiercest battles of America's bloodiest war. Dodge the gunfire. Get caught up behind enemy lines. Go into battle beside the brave young men who fought and died. Feel their desperation and gutility. This happened. Hamburger Hill--war at its worst, men at their best.

Vietnam Combat
Moving Image Item Number: 382VI2755
For many decades, the Vietnam war was the central drama on the stage of southeast Asia. The Vietnamese had fought the Japanese and French Colonial troops to a standstill. The Viet Cong and North Vietnamese were prepared to fight a total war. The United States had become involved to save South Vietnam from eminent destriction at the hands of the communist insurgents. American leaders were becoming increasingly concerned with the failure of the military to win the war for the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese people. Eventually, the negative aspects of the war spilled over into America, touching off a wave of riots and provoking a crisis of social upheaval that rocked the foundation of American society. Few Americans who lived through these times will ever forget this period of drastic change. This was and intensely publicized war, the first televison war that came roaring into the front rooms of America every night. Covering this period, this set contains combat film reports and live newsreel-type stories on the bitter fighting and activities in the support areas. Some of this footage was intended to be seen only by commanders and combat troops. This seven part video saga features live action film footage of key units: Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force. Also, armored cavalry, special forces, signal corps, medical service personnel, combat engineers, air cavalry, combat infantry and air recovery teams are shown in these dramatic films. These stories give you an inside view of everyday life and death with combat units in war-torn Vietnam during on of the most important and influential conflicts of our time.
