Air Assaults in Vietnam for Artillery Tactics John Gillroy, Tom Mintier and myself spent over two weeks in the Parrots Beak developing this story. In my opinion this was one of the best stories DASPO produced. When we walked into base camp after being out as long as we were soldiers moved away from us, I don't think we could have ever gotten dirtier. Our first mission was to find and secure new fatigues then take the longest shower of our life (and of course clean the camera gear). Incidentally John Gillroy who was most instrumental in producing this story was never acknowledged in the letters of appreciation from our own staff as Tom and I were from the chain of command starting with the Commandant US Army Field Artillery School, Major General Charles P. Brown. See back of book for letters. Vietnam the Parrots beak in 1969 Training fil for Ft Sill Artillery school Ted Acheson shooting Tom Mintier doing sound Still man on this job was Primeau

interview recorded with SSgt. Dave Peterson on building a camper
Audio Item Number: 1054AU0808
1 December 1970 Subject: Off Duty Recreation, The Craft Shop Location: Fort Shafter, Hawaii A narrative interview recorded by Specialist Joliff with SSgt. Dave Peterson on a camper he built utilizing the craft shop. The recording begins with identification of the recording. SSgt. Peterson discusses the building of and description of his camper. He said it was the third camper he had built, and all three were different. He had designed it with outdoor sporting activities in mind and had worked approximately four hours a night, five nights a week, ten hours on Saturday and usually a couple hours of touching up things on Sunday. The total cost of the camper was $125 and Mr. Peterson believed it would have cost him at least $450 to purchase a similar one. He said he had no plans, just worked from ideas in his head, but he did have a specific design in mind because he wanted it to fit in the back of his truck. He went through the steps he had taken to complete the camper, detailing the design inside as well as outside and discussing the amount of materials used and approximately how long certain steps took. He pointed out a couple of features he had included for his daughters and discussed the final touches he had to make, and certain things he might add back in the mainland. It was an eight week task and Mr. Peterson said he felt he had achieved a great deal and took pride in his work and he would encourage other people to do it if they had the time and the dedication.
