CHU LAI, Vietnam (Americal IO)--As the final sections of the Bailey Bridge are fitted into place, the up-tilted landing nose poses in mid stream, ready to be pushed the remaining distance across the An Tan River. Men of the Americal Division's 26th Engineer Battalion rolled the Bailey Bridge across the gap in stages as assembly of the bridge progressed.

CHU LAI, Vietnam (Americal IO)--Dust kicked up by a landing helicopter sullies the post-dawn mists of An Tan village, one mile north of Chu Lai. As men of the Americal Division's 26th Engineer Battalion construct a Bailey Bridge on the south end to close the gap caused by Viet Cong sappers, the far side of the old bridge serves as a landing pad for officials assesing the damage.

LZ Hawk Hill, Vietnam (Americal IO)--Vietnamese and American trucks wind down treacherous Tien Phuoc Road. The convoy was the first to go from Tam Ky to Tien Phuoc in seven months, and reached its destination without incident. The vehicles were secured by soldiers of the 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division; elements of the 5th Regiment, 2nd ARVN Division; and Vietnamese Regional Forces.

DUC PHO, Vietnam (Americal IO)--In this photo, taken at a stream approximately 6 kilometers north of Duc Pho, a Popular Forces grenadier carries home a chicken for the cooking pot. The chicken was found in a deserted built-up area which the Territorial Forces men, along with members of the Americal Division's 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry were sweeping.
