A label on the back of the photograph reads, "Khon Brai outpost - 35 km north of Kontum (?), 5km from 'Ho Chi Minh Trail,' post was taken by Viet Cong, August 1961, and garrison wiped out. But was retaken by GVN forces in early 1962 and re-garrisoned."
