Interview with Jim Hall (James M. Hall, Jr.)

[Number of Pages: 155](USAF) Jim Hall was drafted into the Army in 1940, serving in the Artillery until 1942 when he transferred to the US Army Air Force. He flew B-29s over Japan, and was discharged from active duty in 1945. Recalled in March 1950,Jim worked with the Air Force Special Weapons Group at Albuquerque NM 1952-57 and with the Technical Applications Center 1958-68. In Southeast Asia Jim served with Task Force Alpha in Thailand 1968-69 and at the 7th Airborne Command and Control Center at Udorn and Khorat, 1971-72.

Interview with Robert Taylor Rhea

[Number of Pages: 19](USN) Robert Taylor Rhea was born in Tennessee and graduated from Tennessee Technological University, where participated in the Navy's V-12 program. He was selected for submarine training, and first was assigned to Submarine Squadron 45 in San Diego CA before moving to Submarine Division 343. He joined the USS Haddo at Guam in August 1945. The ship entered Tokyo Bay for the ceremonies marking Japan's surrender. Rhea and other officers from the Haddo walked through Yokohama and central Tokyo on 2 September 1945. Rhea left the Navy in 1946 and moved to the Lubbock TX area in 1947.

On June 3, 1969, he was wounded in action (for a second time) and evacuated to Japan and eventually back to the U.S.

Pat retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant Colonel after a long and distinguished career including assignments in the Pentagon, as Commander of a maintenance battalion in Germany, and in Berlin as Chief Logistics Officer for U.S. Forces Berlin. She graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock in 1969, and volunteered for the US Army. After advanced training in helicopter maintenance at Ft Rucker AL, she arrived in Vietnam in January 1970. During her first tour she served with the 240th and 173rd Assault Helicopter Companies. After additional service in the US, she entered a second tour in Vietnam, serving with the 159th and 229th Assault Helicopter Companies between August 1971 and June 1972. Paula is active with the Transgender American Veterans Association.

[Number of Pages: 140](USA) Janice J. Carney was born (as John) in Cambridge MA and enlisted in the US Army in 1969. After training at Ft Dix NJ, Ft Sam Houston TX, and Ft Polk LA, Janice arrived in Vietnam in July 1970. She was originally assigned to the 666th Transportation Corps near Phu Bai, but moved the the 39th Transportation Bn, becoming the battalion mail clerk and courier. She participated in Lam Son 719, and spent time at FSB Vandergrift. After returning from Vietnam, Janice remained in the Reserves and National Guard for several years. She is active in the Trangender American Veterans Association.

U.S. Marine Corps - Interview with John Gary Morris

[Number of Pages: 120](USMC) John 'Gary' Morris was born in 1942 in Houston TX, and attended the University of Dallas before graduating from North Texas University in 1965. He enlisted in the Marines and attended both Boot Camp and Officer Basic School at Quantico VA. Gary served at Camp Lejeune NC, Camp Pendleton CA, and Iwakuni, Japan, before arriving in Vietnam in 1967. He served for 13 months as a squad commander in counter-insurgency operations near 'Happy Valley' outside of Danang, and was promoted to the rank of Captain. Returning to the US, Gary served in the USMC Reserves, retiring in 1999 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He remains active with veterans' organizations and as an artist.

He earned an undergraduate degree in 1964 and was studying pharmacy at the University of Illinois when he was drafted. He entered the Army in 1967, was trained as a medic at Ft Sam Houston TX, and arrived in Vietnam in September 1967. He was assigned to the 12th Evac Hospital at Cu Chi, where he worked as an emergency room medic, including during the Tet Offensive. Returning to the US, Bill completed his pharmacy studies and worked as a pharmacist in Illinois and California until retiring in 1998.
