Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision
Moving Image Item Number: 402VI2042
This Academy Award winner reveals the contentious origins of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and tells the inspiring story of its creator, a 21-year old Yale architecture student. Beating out some of the most prestigious architecture firms from around the world, Lin's plan was selected from over 1,000 different designs, a giant victory for such a young and unknown artist. But little did Maya lin know that her battle was just beginning. In Washington to defend her design, Lin came up against a mighty opposition, challenging indignant veterans and a hostile Congress to ultimately prevail with her emotional 'Wall.' And what began as one of the country's most bitterly disputed public monuments became one of the world's most inspirational and frequently visited memorials. In this riveting and dramatic portrait, renowned filmmaker Freida Lee Mock combines interviews and archival footage to chronicle Lin's story-from its origins, dominated by her David vs Goliath battle over the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to a career designing other memorials, always with an innate talent, and resolute courage.

Live Free or Die
Moving Image Item Number: 1692VI2043
Vietnamese Boat People. After April 30, 1975, about 500,000 Vietnamese Boat people lost their lives on the high seas. Convinced not to live under a communist government, the Boat People grabbed what necessities they could from their homeland and courageously headed out to sea. Today, there are about 3,000,000 Vietnamese refugees living in freedom throughout different parts of the world. (Text from the video casing).

American Honor Video Collection Vietnam Soldier's Story: Invisible Enemy
Moving Image Item Number: 784VI2056
In South Vietnam, 1967, the buildup of American forces approached 500,000. North Vietnamese forces numbered as high as 250,000 well-trained soldiers. With increased fighting, allied dead approached 10,000; wounded almost 100,000. But, those numbers would climb higher in late 1967 as many more Americans fought in the bloody battle of Dak To. This is their story.

Two Days in October
Moving Image Item Number: 402VI2078
Based on the book They Marched Into Sunlight by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Maraniss, Two Days in October tells the story of two turbulent days in October 1967 when history turned a corner. In Vietnam, a U.S. battalion unwittingly marched into a Viet Cong trap. Sixty-one young men were killed and as many wounded. The ambush prompted some in power to wonder whether the war might be unwinnable. Half a world away, concerned students at the University of Wisconsin protested the presence of Dow Chemical recruiters on campus. When Madison police showed up, the demonstration spiraled out of control, marking the first time that a student protest had turned violent. Told entirely by the people who took part in the harrowing events of those two days -- American soldiers, police officers, relatives of men killed in battle, protesting students, university administrators and Viet Cong fighters -- the film offers a window onto a moment that divided a nation and a war that continues to haunt us.

The Atomic Cafe
Moving Image Item Number: 402VI2079
A compilation of 1960's films about what to do in case of a Nuclear attack and the effects of radiation, also footage of troop tests of the exposure to an atomic bomb. Atomic Cafe is a review of the atomic age and the beliefs held by Americans at the time. Many things such as Burt the Turtle who was the figurehead the 'Duck and Cover' campaign are featured. Along with these film clips are portions of Army training films and demonstration films concerning atomic testing. All of these clips are combined to show how little the experts knew about atomics at the time. And even more to the heart, the point is to show the extent propaganda was used to mollify the fears of the American public, and her soldiers.

Don't Look Back
Moving Image Item Number: 402VI2080
Portrait of the artist as a young man. In spring, 1965, Bob Dylan, 23, a pixyish troubador, spends three weeks in England. Pennebaker's camera follows him from airport to hall, from hotel room to public house, from conversation to concert. Joan Baez and Donovan, among others, are on hand. It's the period when Dylan is shifting from acoustic to electric, a transition that not all fans, including Baez, applaud. From the opening sequence of Dylan holding up words to the soundtrack's 'Subterranean Homesick Blues,' Dylan is playful and enigmatic.

The Weather Underground
Moving Image Item Number: 402VI2081
In the 1960s and 1970s, the polarization of the political situation of the USA was becoming acute with the Vietnam War abroad and civil rights at home being but the most obvious issues. For the youth political movement, the seemingly ineffectual methods of peaceful protest and resistance led to the rise of an idealistic faction that want a more extreme approach that the Establishment could not ignore. This faction, called the Weather Underground, attempted to team up with the Black Panthers to violently confront the US government that started with street riots and escalating to bombing government targets. Thorough archival footage and interviews of the veterans of both sides of this conflict, this film covers the resistance movement's campaign of selective violence through this period until changing times and disillusionment brought it to an end while the FBI used unethical and illegal methods to hasten it.
