Pensacola Veterans Memorial Park

In December of 1987, The Moving Wall - a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC - arrived in Pensacola and was placed on display. When it came time for the exhibit to travel on, some of the veterans who had stood vigil at The Moving Wall decided that it was time for Pensacola to erect a permanent monument honoring those who served in the Vietnam War. With the help and support of local citizens and veterans, the dream became a reality and the Pensacola Veterans Memorial Park was established in a beautiful setting adjacent to Pensacola Bay. A half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was built on the site and over the years, other monuments were erected to honor the men and women who served in every war and conflict since WWI. Embark on a journey which traces the history of this park - a place of honor and respect - with archival photographs and footage as well as the heartfelt words and emotions of those who worked to make the dream come alive.

84 Charlie MoPic
Moving Image Item Number: 3316VI4124

84 Charlie MoPic is a 1989 American independent found-footage war drama film written and directed by Patrick Sheane Duncan. The film is a mock-documentary of a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) mission during the Vietnam War. The point of view is from a cameraman following a LRRP team on a five-day patrol deep in "Indian Country" (territory controlled by the North Vietnamese). The cameraman is nicknamed "MoPic" by the team, because of his alphanumeric military occupational specialty: 84C20, Motion Picture Specialist. The supposedly routine mission, however, goes wrong and eventually turns into a struggle for survival. At first the squad seems in control. Their leader, Sergeant OD, detects booby traps, and the squad lays some booby traps of their own. They evade detection by an NVA patrol, and press deep behind enemy lines. One night, over the radio, they hear a whole army company being overrun by an NVA unit. They catch an NVA regiment in the open, and order an artillery strike, taking out much of the enemy.

Now that the NVA knows there are Americans nearby, they avoid any gunfire and make their escape in the bush as silently as possible. OD catches a 6 man NVA patrol on their tail, only 50 meters away. The squad takes them out, and carry a wounded NVA soldier with them. Their position is exposed by the noise, and a sniper takes out Pretty Boy. The sniper repeatedly shoots him in the limbs, torturing him, in an attempt to lure other squad members out into the open. Unable to rescue him, OD mercy kills him. He then demands the LT kill the NVA soldier with a knife to avoid any more noise. He sadistically makes the LT look at pictures of the NVA soldier’s family before LT kills the soldier. The squad continues their escape, but encounter VC troops which wound OD, and kill Cracker. With OD barely able to walk, Hammer, a less experienced squad member, takes point. He triggers a booby trap almost immediately killing him. With half the squad killed, the survivors make their way to their evacuation point. After a final firefight, MoPic is killed. OD, LT, and Easy escape in the chopper as the film ends.

Cast:
Jonathan Emerson as LT
Nicholas Cascone as Easy
Jason Tomlins as Pretty Boy
Christopher Burgard as Hammer
Glenn Morshower as Cracker
Richard Brooks as OD
Byron Thames as MoPic

The film includes Korean subtitles.

Established in 1967 in support of Game Warden Operations in the Mekong Delta, Republic of Vietnam. The establishment of the Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three Seawolves, also known as HA(L)-3, would mark an unprecedented chapter in Naval Aviation. Approximately 2556 men; Maintainers, Personnel, Gunners, and Pilots volunteered for duty. With hand-me-down Huey's and the spirit of ingenuity, courage, and resolve, the Seawolves became the most decorated Squadron in the Vietnam War and in Naval Aviation History.

"We made it our mission to never have to tell another American Mother that her son wasn't coming home." Jim Walker, HA(L)-3 Navy Cross Recipient

Tour of Duty - The Complete Series
Moving Image Item Number: 3320VI4126
  • Not Available

Enjoy the groundbreaking TV series that was the first to depict the Vietnam War through the eyes of a single platoon of young U.S. soldiers. Featuring breakout roles for Kim Delaney (TV's NYPD Blue), Kyle Chandler (TV's Friday Night Lights), and special guest stars including Carl Weathers (Rocky), Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs), Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible), and many more.

Season One:
Before "Band of Brothers" there was Tour of Duty. The racially and socially diverse men of Bravo Company come together and begin their 1-year tour in Vietnam. Led by Sgt. Zeke Anderson (Terence Knox), they must ultimately depend on one another to face enemy troops and survive the hostile Southeast Asian terrain. Full of thrilling combat action, Tour of Duty also portrays the dramatic human side of war and the camaraderie of the men who gave their all for their country.

Season Two:
Brothers in arms. Brothers to the end. When Bravo Company is transferred to the Tan Son Nhut Base outside of Saigon, it's a whole new war with new dangers and new faces. Kim Delaney (TV's NYPD Blue) joins the cast as a war correspondent embedding with the platoon. The action continues but the personal battles are just beginning for the fresh-faced recruits who are becoming battle-weary fighters amidst the daily grind of war.

Season Three:
Their tour is ending but the battles are far from over. The courageous soldiers of Bravo Company face their toughest challenges yet when they become part of a Special Ops unit at Camp Barnett. The third and final season is powerful, hitting on issues unique to the Vietnam era: the devastating effects of chemical warfare, the massacre of Vietnamese civilians, the growing use of heroin, and the difficulties the soldiers face returning home to a country bitterly divided by war.

Tiếng Mẹ Trên Đất Cha / Mother Tongue, Fatherland

During the American presence in the Vietnam War, it is estimated that 45,000 children were born of American soldiers and young Vietnamese women. Most of these Vietnamese Amerasians were abandoned by their fathers and left to live in poverty, shame, and prejudice. The end of the war brought them no comfort, for they were labeled "offspring of the Western enemies" and were pushed further into a life deprived of social acceptance, education, and employment opportunities.

With the Amerasian Homecoming Act signed in 1987 many Amerasians were brought over to the United States to live in the land of their fathers. Freedom, opportunity for education and employment, and the chance to start their life over were given to them, yet they seldom felt at home, preferring to stay on the fringe of Vietnamese and American communities.

This film follows the stories of these Amerasians from the time of war, through their journey to America, and to the present day after having settled in the U.S. for several years. Here is the voice of a people rejected by the Vietnamese and forgotten by Americans.

A film by Cuong Simon Phan.
Music by George Maurer.
In Vietnamese with English subtitles.

Calling themselves Troxler's Truckers after their commanding officer, the men of the 319th Transportation Company were activated and sent to the Vietnam War in 1968, taking them far from their Augusta, Georgia homes. Troxler's Truckers: Memories of Vietnam deals with the supply line and the men who drove trucks in support of ground troops and fire bases. Follow this Army Reserve unit and experience the life of the supply line - the stress (ambushed 7 times), the boredom (over one million miles), and the humor. This is their story, told in their words, their voices, using their images. A film by James Henderson.

In September 2008, four delegates representing the Veterans Initiative Program traveled to Vietnam for their twenty-first trip in twelve years.

The mission of the delegation was to exchange information concerning the missing, both American and Vietnamese, from the Vietnam-American War. The delegation traveled to six cities to meet with Vietnamese delegations representing the People's Committees, the Veteran's Organizations, and the Vietnamese Friendship Organizations.

Opportunity for a final resting place for the missing has become possible through an unprecedented cooperation of former enemies. The gesture of the American Veterans Initiative has helped to change the history of warfare and its aftermath. Today, Americans and Vietnamese are searching and locating those who did not return.

Featuring Jack Devine, William Duker, Steven Hiller, Gary Jones, and Bui Van Nghi. Narrated by Ann Phan.
