The collection consists of half a linear foot of three volumes of United States Assistance to South Vietnam, 1954-1975 documenting the major economic assistance activities undertaken by the United States Agency for International Development and its predecessors during the extended period of U.S. involvement in South Vietnam. The volumes were prepared by the Asia Bureau, Office of Residual Indochina Affairs, Viet-Nam Desk and are dated 31 December 1975. Volumes I & II include a summary of materials, while Volume III contains a Bibliography of Official Documents accumulated by the Agency over a period of more than 20 years.

Book titled Lighting Candles: Hospital Memories of Vietnam's Montagnards by Hilary Smith documents the activities from 1971-1973 at Minh Quy Hospital which was established by Dr. Pat Smith of Seattle to care for Montagnards in Kontum in the Vietnamese Central Highlands. Letters written by Hilary Smith to her father during her service at Minh Quy Hospital, including letter exchanges between Hilary and other nurses from the hospital. Also included in the donation is an early manuscript draft of Smith's book Lighting Candles, and photocopies of newspaper articles about Minh Quy Hospital. Approximately 4.5 linear feet of books and booklets accumulated by David Gustin during his service as an interpreter/translator with the Army Security Agency from 1963-1965 and the Central Intelligence Agency from 1965-1969 in Saigon. Most of the materials cover Vietnamese, English, Russian, and French translations of vocabulary on various topics including intelligence, military units and organizations, literary and esthetics studies, and musicology. One book is a history of Vietnam written in Russian. There are also Vietnamese-French-English dictionaries for idioms and scientific and technological terms put out by both Hanoi and Saigon. Also included in the collection are artifacts and maps of Saigon and Southeast Asia. Also included is a set of photographs that Gustin purchased in Saigon.
