The Association is active in promoting the research, dissemination and preservation of information concerning Association members and assist members in locating others with whom they served. B Troop 2nd / 17th Cavalry Association is exempt from taxation under IRC 501 (c) (19). James Winlow produced a documentary of a June 1999 return to Vietnam by members of B Troop to re-visit the battleground where Spec. 4 Joseph G. LaPointe Jr. earned, posthumously, the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr. Collection: Agent Orange Coordinating Committee (612) Finding Aid
This sub-series contains the records of the Agent Orange Coordinating Committee (AOCC). The AOCC was comprised of representatives of various Veterans’ Organizations, under the leadership of Admiral Zumwalt. Its purpose was to coordinate efforts in raising public awareness regarding the Agent Orange issue, to facilitate political lobbying efforts, to divest the National Academy of Science review committee of those members felt to have a conflict of interest, to support scientific research and assist in the dissemination of information regarding research into the effects of AO on Veterans and, later, the Vietnamese people, and to prevent unnecessary duplication of efforts toward this issue. The AOCC acted as a clearing-house for private-sector efforts to assemble information, such as the Vietnam Veterans Agent Orange Health Survey. The committee was also involved in preparing several amicus curiae briefs for important court challenges. The materials in this sub-series include minutes from AOCC meetings and articles from various newspapers and member organization newsletters. The majority of the collection is correspondence from the 1980s and 1990s.

Admiral Zumwalt authored and co-authored a large number of columns syndicated in various newspapers. Some were simply under his name; others, written with retired vice-admiral Worth Bagley were marketed as the 'Zumwalt / Bagley Report'. He also shared a weekly column with his son under the title 'The Zumwalts' Report' But Zumwalt/Bagley Reports appeared both before and after the Zumwalts' Report. These opinion-pieces generally focused upon US Foreign Policy and Defense issues as well as NATO analysis and ruminations regarding the USSR (later Russia) and Red China. The Zumwalts' Report also published a series of excerpts from Jim Zumwalt's experiences as a line officer with the USMC during Desert Shield / Desert Storm.

This series is 7.5 linear feet. This series deals with articles both by and about Admiral Zumwalt. Some articles express Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Zumwalt's repeated warnings that the Soviet Navy had surpassed the United State Navy in combatant capabilities. Further, several articles address Admiral Zumwalt's statements concerning the Australian, New Zealand, and United States Treaty (ANZUS). Articles after Admiral Zumwalt's retirement and his unsuccessful bid for the Senate seat from Virginia, demonstrate his criticism of trends he saw in Defense procurement, especially the tendency toward increasingly large and sophisticated, and more expensive, weapons platforms. There are also articles about his family, especially Mouza's efforts during the campaign. Articles in this series also refer to Lt. Col. Zumwalt (Admiral Zumwalt's father) including a couple of letters from the European Theater in 1945.

This single-box series deals primarily with the controversy over 'Gulf War Syndrome' (GWS) and its similarities to the Agent Orange Controversy. There were numerous possible contributors to the pathologies of GWS: possible chemical/biological agents deployed by Saddam Hussein during the conflict, especially organophosphates-based agents, the environmental pollution Hussein created by setting the oil fields ablaze, endemic biological threats from the region, the depleted-Uranium (DU) ordinance used by American forces, and the experimental vaccine against Anthrax with which American forces were inoculated. The experiences of Jim Zumwalt's Marine unit during the war are also treated. Also significant is renewed interest in what came to be referred to as War Syndrome(s) and the Healthy Warrior Effect.

Approximately one and a half linear feet of artifacts, slides,and medals collected during Julian H. Hyde's service in Vietnam. The artifacts include three black jackets with embroidery, which Hyde brought back from Vietnam for his sons, a green bush hat, and a dagger with a carved wooden hilt. The slides document Hyde's two tours in Vietnam and time spent in Thailand.

Less than a quarter of a linear foot of correspondence from John R. Weber, a radio operator on MAC-V Advisory Team 25, to Bobby Underwood, a boy scout in Dallas, Texas. Bobby requested a soldier as a pen pal, and John Weber responded. The letters primarily date from 1970, with several more from 1971 and 1972. This collection also includes two newspaper clippings regarding the Underwood family's involvement in Vietnam, two photos of John Weber, and a card from the parents of John Weber to Bobby Underwood.

In the documentary Turner returns to Vietnam and finds her birth family as she examines the consequences of the babylift on the orphans themselves.
