The collection consists of photographs, a program, periodicals, and a VHS tape that document the Lee Roy Herron Scholarship ceremony at Texas Tech University on 3 March 2001. The scholarship was established in honor of Lubbock native Lee Roy Herron, who was a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was killed in battle in the Ashau Valley in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam on 22 February 1969. The periodicals and VHS tape were collected by Norman Flanagan following the dedication ceremony, for which he created a bronze likeness of Herron. The materials are dated 2001-2002.

Hardbound log books, bridge and engine room bell books, materials from bulletin boards, deck log books, Naval Ships Technical Manuals, departmental custody cards, inventory lists, maps and posters and other publications relevant to maritime service have all been recovered from the General John Pope, which is mothballed in the San Francisco Bay. In addition, over 400 canvas bunk bottoms were recovered; these have been digitized and can be viewed online as part of the Vietnam Graffiti Project.

CD-ROM contains photographs of Jeffrey Bass's painting 'Earthquake's Final Flight' and an internet article from the Pensacola News Journal describes the story behind Bass's painting. The painting, which is on display at the CIA Museum in McLean, Virginia, depicts the C-119 Flying Boxcar flown by Civil Air Transport (CAT) pilots Wallace Buford and James 'Earthquake McGoon' McGovern as it was shot down by the Viet Minh. Buford and Wallace were killed as a result while they were attempting to resupply the French forces who were under siege at Dien Bien Phu.
