The collection consists of CDs, film, and photocopies of papers written and presented by James Willbanks for conferences and other academic gatherings documenting various topics related to the Vietnam Conflict. The papers all date from the post-war period, primarily 1999-2001 and include topics such as: the end of the Vietnam Conflict, military forces in Vietnam, the defeat of the South Vietnamese, the Thai Army in Vietnam, the Battle of Hue, and the 1972 Easter Offensive. One CD contains documents dating from 1962 to 2004 and includes: the Analysis of the Khe Sanh Battle (5 April 1968), Helicopter Operations in Counterinsurgency, Combined Action Program (CAP) Histories, and Viet Cong Improvised Mines and Booby Traps. The other disc contains various Vietnamese language documents translated by Merle Pribbenow. The film footage dates from the war era. Also included are booklets pertaining to the history of the 192nd Assault Helicopter Company. These materials are dated 2018-2022.

Approximately one and a half linear feet of slides, photographs, artifacts, audio cassette tapes, periodicals, newspapers, appointment books, military documents, correspondence, and POW lists document Charles H. Schmidt's U.S. Army service as a chaplain during the Vietnam War (1967-1968) and particularly his involvement helping the POWs during their return flights from North Vietnam in Operation Homecoming in 1973. The collection materials span from February 1967-July 1983 with the bulk being from 1973.

Items of special note are two editions of the Pacific Stars and Stripes. One is a special supplement covering news highlight for 1965 to 1972 that was distributed to the POW's on their 1973 Operation Homecoming flights. The other edition, for 18 March 18 1973, is autographed by several POWs including the longest held POW, Major Floyd Thompson; Sergent Ronald R. Ridgeway, who had been declared dead and buried in a national cemetery in St. Louis; Master Sergeant Harvey Gordon Brande; and Sergeant Robert R. Hille [?].

Approximately 18.5 linear feet of documents, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, press releases, books, photographs, a tourist brochure, periodicals, microforms and artifacts document various issues related to the Vietnam Conflict and the history of Indochina. Operational and intelligence reports, logistical and medical studies, Congressional hearings, political, economic and cultural materials, papers by individuals, groups and government contractors and educational items from American military schools make up the document collection. These materials are from both the war and post-war eras (1886-2004) and are in the following languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese and French. Many documents are from the various arms of the US Military, the CIA, National Security Agency, State Department, British Foreign Office and Royal Navy, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces and the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization. Highlights include documents on pacification, air interdiction of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, cryptology studies, intelligence material on French Indochina, the 1965 Battle of the Ia Drang, the 1968 Tet Offensive, the 1972 Easter Offensive, the 1973 de-mining of Hai Phong Harbor and media coverage of the Vietnam Conflict.

The collection also includes newspapers and official military documents like Daily Staff Journals, After Action Reports, Operation Reports - Lessons Learned, Periodical Intelligence Reports (PERINTREP), Province Reports, Command and Unit Histories, Organization Charts, Intelligence Reports, Situation Reports, MACV CORDS and pacification documents for various units and provinces throughout South Vietnam. The majority of these
documents are focused on the Tet Offensive and are dated June 1967 through August of 1968 with the bulk dates being January through February of 1968. Also included are interviews with battle participants and commanders, analysis of the battle and intelligence systems used from both military and academic sources, translations of analysis of the battle from North Vietnamese participants and scholars, and PAVN and PLAF unit histories.

The collection also includes audio recordings and notebooks. The cassette tapes feature recordings of base attacks, radio and TV news coverage of Tet 1968, and music. The notebooks have notes about various battles and important figures from the Tet Offensive of 1968. The materials date from 1968 to 1990 with the bulk dates being 1968 through 1969.

The collection consists of 17 photographs taken by Sergeant Dennis I. Fisher for the U.S. Marine Corps. The photos were taken March 6 through April 21, 1968, and show Marines of the 1st Battalion 27th Marine Regiment participating in several operations, including Operation No Name II, Operation Rock, Operation Baxter, and Operation Houston. The photos also show F-4C Phantoms dropping 250 pound “snake eye” bombs, 60mm High Explosive (HE) mortar rounds, firing a 60mm mortar, M-60 machine gun, M-79 grenade launcher, and helicopters in use including a CH-53 Sea Stallion and a CH-46 Sea Knight.

The collection consists of approximately 2.5 linear feet of materials documenting Specialist 4 Gregory Behling's U.S. Army service as a clerk typist in the Information Office of the 1st Signal Brigade assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Signal Brigade stationed at Long Binh in 1970. His duties involved preparing correspondence and other paperwork for the Information Office. His Information Office was responsible for publishing the bi-weekly newspaper Communicator and the magazine The Jagged Sword, which reported on activities in the Brigade. The materials include newspapers and clippings; periodicals; pamphlets and booklets; photographs; and slides. The materials are dated predominately 1967-1971.

Van Michael Davidson served as an advisor in Vietnam from July 1970 to June 1971. The collection consists of documents, photographs, serials, newspapers and a framed Viet Cong flag document.
