Side A This is an audio letter from Sandra Miller to Elza Miller, her husband in Vietnam. Sandra plays with the baby throughout the letter. She reads a prayer to share with Elsa early during the recording. After playing with the baby for much of the tape, Sandy describes recent events at home. Some friends are looking at different houses to buy and she describes them. She is looking forward to seeing him during R&R and talks about how much she misses him. Side B She is very emotional while recording this letter. She misses her husband very much and this letter was recorded around Mother's Day, which explains her feelings. Sandy has mailed several packages to Elsa lately and says that she hopes that he has enjoyed them. She concludes by telling him that she loves him very much and misses him.

Side A Copyright: Willie Nelson song This is an audio letter from Elza Miller to his wife, Sandra Miller. He reassured her that he appreciated the tapes but he gave her tips on getting better results with her tapes. He also told her that he appreciated her Christmas package but wasn't sure if he could wait until Christmas to open it. At this point a Vietnamese woman (Mamasan) sings on the tape. After the song he complains about his Sergeant and other difficulties between several of the officers. He is also frustrated with the drinking habits of some of the other soldiers (being rowdy late at night), and the laxness of soldiers on alert. He concludes by saying that he appreciates his family's willingness to mail things to him and looking after his pregnant wife. Side B He begins this side of the tape by gently complaining about the food (low quality of meat, no fruits, or milk). However, he is looking forward to the completion of a Meadowgold plant nearby so that he will be able to get milk and cheeses. He says that he is unsure of what to get his wife for Christmas but is trying to find something nice. He is also trying to find friends from home that were sent to Vietnam and asks his wife to check with their families in an attempt to locate them. The lack of motivation and laziness of the South Vietnamese troubles him. He also says that he is excited about his baby being born and getting back to the farm when his tour is over. He assures his wife that he loves and misses her as well as telling her that his is committed to her and will remain faithful.

Side A: Sandra begins by recording sounds of her playing with the baby. Then she recorded messages from both of their parents to Elza (her husband). They commented that he missed bird-hunting season and that he should quit smoking citing several neighbors that recently got cancer and died from cigarettes. She described how the baby has grown and changed in the last couple months. She also commented that she was saving money for their trip to Hawaii for his R&R.

Side B: She says that she likes Pampers very much but are very expensive. After that she sings a lullaby to her baby. She says that she relies on memories of their time together before he was drafted to pass the time while they were apart. Also visiting 'couple friends' and reading more to pass the time. She addresses birth control issues for their visit over R&R and will discuss it with her doctor about various methods. Sandy says that she wants to start exchanging more tapes because the baby is sleeping more and allowing her to have more free time. She concludes by telling Elza that she loves him and misses him very much.

He says that he got a fancy pipe for Christmas from his friends back home. He will try not to open other presents before Christmas. He recently got a smallpox vaccine and had some minor irritation afterwards. He is very happy that the new milk plant is in production. He comments that the ice cream isn't quite right. The company also gets filtered water from the plant because it's much better than the chlorinated local water. He makes some racist comments concerning the Vietnamese being trained at the milk plant in comparisons to African Americans. Side B This is an audio letter from Elza Miller to Sandra Miller. He states that he has a lot of sexual desire for his wife and is looking forward to being with her in Hawaii. He says that other soldiers have been teasing him about getting such a good-looking wife. His bunkmate is studying English through correspondence courses and Elsa says that he's reading a book on physics but doubts that he would take that or chemistry through correspondence courses. He says that he feels that the baby is bringing them closer together and that he loves Sandy very much.

[Number of Pages: 0]
Side A This is an audio letter from Arturo to this parent in July 1968. He inquires about his family and says that they heard about Kennedy and everyone took it pretty hard but is pretty much over it now. He encourages one of his relatives to stay in school to keep from being drafted because he says that it is really bad in Vietnam. He states that he's on an airstrip far from most of the fighting so he's not in much danger other than the occasional rocket or mortar attack. He comments that the Vietnamese people do not seem to care enough about their country to fight for it. When he gets back to the United States he wants to get married after a couple months. He's staying in the military and hopes to get stationed at San Antonio. Side B Arturo inquires about his family and their farm. He's thinking of buying a car when he gets back home. He mentioned the loss of a submarine in the Atlantic (possibly the Scorpion). He tells them to contact the Red Cross if there is any emergency. He got a newspaper from Lubbock from his mother and really appreciated it. He only has about five months left in Vietnam and is hoping to leave early.

Side A This is a taped letter by Sandra Miller to Elza Miller around Christmas time. She is pregnant and very close to giving birth. She has been taking the tape recorder to different people they know and having them record messages to her husband. Most of the tape consists of her giving news about the family and how things are going at home. She says that it is funny and a little frustrating how everyone frets over her about her pregnancy but is glad that she has people there to help her. Side B Early in the recording she describes what she got for Christmas. During her descriptions she started teasing her husband by describing some lingerie that she got as a gift and that she was going to take a picture of it so that he could imagine what she was going to look like in it. She stated that she was going to wear more lingerie when her husband got back. Her husband got to see Raquel Welch at a USO show which his wife teased him about. She also said that she hoped that he was able to see the Bob Hope show that he commented about. She also said that she was looking forward to his R and R at the end of the recording.
