The collection consists of one POW/MIA bracelet for Major Bradley G. Cuthbert of the United States Air Force. He was lost on November 23, 1968 in North Vietnam. The bracelet was worn by Steven Blunck, the donor. Also included is a poster featuring an image of a memorial dedicated to Vietnam veterans. The image, titled In Honor of the Vietnam Veterans, was taken by John Malick. Malick gave Steven Blunck the poster as a tribute to his father, Lyle Blunck. Lyle Blunck served in Vietnam in 1967 as a Department of the Army civilian, working for the US Army Weapons Command at Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois.

Two black and white photographs taken by offical Marine Corps photographers. One of the Marine forward obsevers for the beseiged 26th Marines trying to spot North Vietnamese Army mortar position from front lines at Khe Sanh in February 1968, and one of the members of the 9th Marine Regiment moving through a clearing past a Marine tank as a CH-46 helicopter lands to evacuate wounded near Cam Lo, Vietnam, in April 1967. The photographs were found at a garage sale in Denver, Colorado, and sent to the archive by Louise and Jody Schoch.

Materials in this series reflect Turner's involvement in the MSU Advisory Group (MSUG) in Vietnam. Turner's collection of papers on this project reflect largely the formal workings of the MSUG, and consequently consist largely of reports, publications, articles, briefing information, case studies, meeting minutes, notes, drafts of formal materials, and some correspondence. It is suggested that the researcher consult the series of correspondence for the time period Turner spent in Vietnam as Chief Police Advisor to the Police and Security Service of South Vietnam as part of the MSUG. Please also refer to collection UA 2.9.5.5 (Vietnam Project) and UA 17.95 (Wesley R. Fishel Papers) for a more detailed record of MSU's involvement in Vietnam. The collection consists of approximately 58 linear feet of research materials used by Philip Gutzman to write three reference books on the Vietnam War: Vietnam: a Visual Encyclopedia; Vietnam: Naval and Riverine Weapons; and the Dictionary of Military Acronyms. The materials include documents, books, microforms, photographs, slides, moving images, periodicals, and artifacts. The collection contains excellent reference material on all topics and time periods of the Vietnam War and would be useful for scholars as well as military veterans looking for official military documentation and battle accounts.

The materials include the book Dusterman Vietnam: Story of the Last Great Gunfighters: Transcripts from My Vietnam Diary and Memoirs by Joseph M. Belardo. Joseph Belardo was the United States Army 1st Field Force, Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 44th Artillery, Mobile Combat Team, Body Recovery Combat Attachment to the 3rd Marine Amphibious Force, 3rd Marine Division from August 1967 to August 1968.

The books in the collection contain many useful reference manuals on military weapons and equipment. The documents in the collection cover a wide variety of formats including military reports (e.g. Operation Reports – Lessons Learned, After Action Reports); study and analysis papers written by scholars and research institutions like the RAND Corporation; military training documents; special reports; bibliographies; and Department of the Army field manuals. These materials originated from a variety of institutions including the Army War College, the National Archives, the U.S. military, the RAND Corporation, the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC), and Gutzman’s own service in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

These materials cover the time period from the Viet Minh and the First Indochina War through the end of the Vietnam War with the bulk of the materials dating from 1960 through 1975. Major subjects covered by these materials include insurgency/counterinsurgency; Special Forces; prisoners of war; herbicides/defoliation; psychological warfare; tactical air support; tank warfare; Thailand; Laos; Cambodia; Montagnards and Vietnam’s ethnic minorities; naval and riverine operations; military slang and terminology; Vietnamization; terrorism; the Viet Cong; guerilla warfare; refugees; military weapons and weapons systems; nuclear weaponry; pacification; military medicine and first aid; logistics and support; and reports and analyses of various battles of the Vietnam War.

The collection consists of approximately half a linear foot of slides and documents donated to the archive by Charles N. Coleman. The slides were taken by Coleman during his service with the U.S. Army Engineer Construction Agency Vietnam (USAECAV) Provisional at Long Binh from June 1, 1969 through August 14, 1970. The slides show daily life in Long Binh, and they also reflect Coleman’s travels to Nha Trang, Qui Nhon, An Khe, Phu Bai, Dong Ha North, and Pleiku.

The collection also includes approximately one linear foot of books and military publications accumulated by Charles Coleman. The publications include Air Power and the Fight for Khe Sanh, Counterinsurgency Operations (FMFM 8-2), and Vietnam 10 Years Later: What Have We Learned? The materials are dated 1973-1990.

John Taylor Collection (2776) Finding Aid
The collection consists of approximately one linear foot of photocopied textual records, photographs, and electronic media documenting Dr. John Taylor's experience working at Minh Quy Hospital in Kontum, South Vietnam from 1971 to 1973. The materials include articles, memos and correspondence (including some letters in Vietnamese), Dr. Taylor's order to report for induction into the US Armed Forces, clippings, a pamphlet regarding work and business practices in Vietnam, a list of Minh Quy Hospital projects, a guide to John Taylor's oral history interview conducted with Vietnam Archive staff, a poem, maps, and map annotations. Correspondence subjects include Dr. Taylor's antiwar advocacy efforts, his struggle with the military draft, and his service at Minh Quy Hospital. Many of the documents include translations and other notes provided by Dr. Taylor. The materials date predominately from 1966 to 1975 and from 1997 to 2001.

The collection also includes CDs donated to the archive by Dr. John Taylor. The CDs contain scans of correspondence about Minh Quy Hospital written by Dr. Taylor and other volunteers and staff members of the hospital. The correspondence talks about the operations of the hospital, the staff's efforts to get support for the hospital, the movement of the hospital due to the dangers of war, and personal correspondence between Taylor and other hospital staff. The CD also contains photos taken by Dr. Taylor while volunteering at the hospital. These materials are dated 1971 through 1975.

The collection consists of approximately 7 linear feet of textual records, photographs, slides, artifacts, books, audio interviews, music records, serials, maps, floppy disks, and posters documenting J. D. Coleman's service in Vietnam as a Public Information Officer with the 1st Calvary Division between 1965 and 1970. It also includes materials collected by Coleman during the course of his research for his books: Incursion: From America's Chokehold on the NVA Lifelines to the Sacking of the Cambodian Sanctuaries; Pleiku: The Dawn of Helicopter Warfare in Vietnam; and Wonju: The Gettysburg of the Korean War.

The collection has been arranged into three series: Projects, Personal Correspondence, and Reference.

Series 1 - Projects
The series consists of textual records used by Coleman in the process of his work on various projects. These include three military history books - Pleiku: The Dawn of Helicopter Warfare in Vietnam (1988), Incursion (1992), and Wonju: The Gettysburg of the Korean War (2000); television documentaries about the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam; and a novel entitled South Georgia Blues. It also documents assistance Coleman provided to others such as providing material for another's magazine article, helping a veteran with a VA claim, and helping to produce a music record by Bill Ellis.

Items of note include Coleman’s article proposing the establishment of a US Army Branch of Information which he submitted to the Department of the Army (including staff comments on the article and correspondence regarding the article); research materials for Incursion, Coleman’s book on the Cambodian incursion (interview transcripts, interviewee curriculum vita; unit histories of the 1st Battalion 7th Calvary and the 2nd Battalion 12th Calvary in Cambodia; source biographies; contact information); notes and correspondence pertaining to the Cambodian incursion research of Keith Nolan; selections of Coleman’s books, including chapter outlines; biographical sketches of sources for Coleman’s books (e.g. Major General Harry Kinnard, Lieutenant General Richard Knowles); a translation of the combat order for the ambush at Plei Me by the NVA 32nd regiment; lists of correspondents in Vietnam (including those who have visited the 1st Cavalry Division); reviews of Coleman’s books, Incursion and Pleiku; hand-drawn map showing northern III Corps and VC positions along Cambodian border; a photocopy of Major Ned Baxter Ennis’ thesis (Charlie Black: the Ernie Pyle of the Vietnam War); a critique of the Pleiku manuscript by St. Martin’s Press with ideas for revision; DINFOS Bibliography of Theses and Reports Related to Military Information Activities (Volume II, June 1972) with marginalia; FM 100-5 Operations (Headquarters, Department of the Army; May 5, 1986) with marginalia; list of correspondents and U.S. Military Information Officers in Vietnam, with contact information (October 25, 1965); list of news media representatives visiting 1st ACD from 1967-1969; transcript from Coleman’s final radio broadcast on KQTE Missoula; Coleman’s concept paper for Secrets of War Episode 22: Hidden in Plain Sight; and a business plan for Coleman's recording company First Team Productions.

Series 2 - Personal Correspondence
The series consists of personal correspondence that Coleman wrote to his wife (Madeline Coleman) and his mother, as well as some letters he received from his children (Darrell, Shelly, Roger, Kathy, Michele) while in Vietnam. The series also includes miscellaneous letters from various friends and family members, as well as some documents pertaining to Coleman's family history.

Series 3 - Reference
The series consists of Coleman's reference records in the areas of his military service, his education, and his career. It also includes personal mementos, awards, and artwork.
