Paul Cecil Collection (252) Finding Aid
The collection consists of approximately 9.5 linear feet of materials including books, photographs, slides, artifacts, film, audio, electronic media, notes, periodicals, microfilm, data sheets (spray coordinates, statistics, summaries), memos and correspondence, reports (DAARs, intelligence, target summaries, CHECO), newspaper clippings, magazine articles, journals, studies, oral history transcripts, presentations, guides, commission proceedings, academic papers, forms, bibliographic information, meeting agendas and minutes, website printouts, maps, and official military materials documenting a broad range of topics related to Operation Ranch Hand, the Ranch Hand Association and issues related to herbicidal usage during the Vietnam Conflict. Topics include support for and against the use of herbicides, studies conducted on the use of herbicides, lawsuits against its use, Veterans Administration treatment of Vietnam Veterans, and their objections with the United States government and chemical and germ warfare.

Materials of interest in this collection are the DAAR Reports, or Daily Air Activity Reports for Operation Ranchhand. These daily reports show the map coordinates of spray missions, the type of agent used, number of gallons sprayed, number of hits the spray aircraft sustained during the mission and grid coordinates of the enemy fire, flying conditions experienced during the mission, and if the mission was aborted the reason(s) why. The units mentioned in the reports are the 309th Air Commando Squadron, 315th Air Commando Group, 12th Airborne Command and Control Squadron, and the 12th Special Operations Squadron. Also included with the reports are handwritten notes.

Materials in this collection date from 1960 to 2017 and are primarily organized in their original order.
